Perseid Meteor Shower 2020

This year’s Perseid meteor shower peaked on the night of 11-12 August. My meteor camera captured 291 Perseid meteors while watching the skies northwest of Santa Fe. You can watch the video of how the shower developed as the night progressed. As is usually the case with meteor showers, the frequency of meteors increases after midnight and is highest just before dawn because it is the dawn side of the earth that is the facing forward as the earth moves around the sun.

The following image shows that majority of meteors observed had their origin from the Perseid radiant.
